Calling the space
"Let me begin by saying thank you for being here. Something we often forget these days is that marriage is a community event. That's why we come here together. Witnessing, affirming, and agreeing to support the joining we will witness here today."

"The ceremony today will progress in a kind of a spiral, beginning first with the community in which Alan and Kristen live, progressing next to the family in which they were raised, thence to the close friends who support them, and finally, to the couple themselves."

"Alan and Kristen come have come here today in front of you here assembled, to make agreements to love and support one another. To begin to create a family that will thrive and prosper."

"So let's begin the agreements with you, the community. Will you, as Alan and Kristen's community here assembled, agree to support this new family and give this union your blessing?"

Blessings
"Now, drawing in from the community, we come to the parents, from whence these two people came. Alan and Kristen's parents would each like to offer a blessing"

Blessings by parents: Paul Larson (Kristen's father), Dana Nichols (Alan's father) and Gwen Nichols (Alan's mother), LaVerne Larson (Kristen's mother).

Invocation
"Drawing in yet again, to their closest friends, we call to us those energies we would like to have support this marriage."

"Friendship is an important stone in the foundation of a lasting marriage. To help cement this stone into place, Beth will now speak on friendship."

Kristen's Maid of Honor, Beth, speaks on friendship.

"One of the things Alan and Kristen value most highly about each other is their ability to accept themselves and others exactly as they are. To help cement this aspect, Talia, will now speak further on this."

Alan's Best Woman, Talia speaks on openness and acceptance.

Magical Act
"As flame brought you together, now you, Alan and Kristen, come together and light these candles." Akien steps aside, Alan and Kristen come forward and light the candles.

"Marriage is a series of agreements, of promises kept, promises broken, and new promises made. I ask you now, as you stand on the threshold of your new life together, to make these promises to each other. Do you each promise:"

  • "Always to strive for clear communication within yourself, between each other, and with the world at large?"
  • "Do you promise to make meaningful plans, and to agree not to withhold the small difficulties as they arise, to trade the momentary discomfort in order to lessen the times of greater strife?"
  • "To model for yourselves, your children, and your community, a joy in being and doing, a joy in learning, creating and relating?"
  • "To strive to be better individuals in support of being better as a couple?"
  • "To treat each other and yourselves with gentleness and respect, recognizing that even when you fall short of your goals, that you are still whole and complete, and worthy of love and compassion?"
  • "Do you promise to remember that the relationship needs the needs of each individual equally, and to strive for the outcome in which you both win, whenever you find yourselves in dispute?"
  • "Do you promise to plan together, listening, tempering feelings with thought, knowing that for your relationship to win, your choices may not lead either one of you to lose?"
  • "Do you each promise to own your own feelings and to settle differences with a gentle voice and a civil tongue, sharing thoughts and seeking wisdom from each other?"
  • "Do you promise to remember, especially in the difficult times, that you are each doing the best you know how?"
"I ask you now to remember that Fate brings each of us challenges, and puts problems in our road for a reason. From this day forward, you are choosing to travel this road together, facing your problems side by side."

Magical Act - Alan and Kristen's Vows
BOTH:
"You are my friend, and partner in Life. We are here to face our lives together."

"I love you, deeply and passionately, as I have loved no other."

"I promise to encourage you to do all that you can to live a rich and full life, and I promise to support you in all your endeavors."

"I promise to endure the trials of life with you, regardless of what those trials may bring."

Akien: "And to seal this commitment, the rings."
